Christian’s Top Tips For A Spring Garden
Spring has arrived, and as the sun begins to peak out from the clouds, many of us tentatively start to peer out at the winter detritus in our garden. Particularly with the lifting of lockdown restrictions on the horizon, it can seem like an overwhelming task to get the garden ready to receive loved ones in the glorious warm weather.
With this in mind, we got in touch with PMP Approved contractor Christian for his top tips on preparing your garden for Spring.
Christian: “It is that time of year again when it is good to prepare the garden before the arrival of lovely weather. I’m afraid to get the best-looking garden you need to be proactive with the maintenance. Here are some of my top tips to think about doing or getting someone else to do.”
Prepare Flower Beds
When we think about Spring, we think about vibrant flowers in a range of bright and beautiful colours. But this will only be achieved if you prep your flower beds in good time!
Christian: “Remove weeds, turn soil and top dress with compost or munch. Edge the Flower Beds. This will give the beds a good chance for the year.”
Check plants for pests and diseases.
Christian: “It is best to treat now so the plant has time to recover before the nice weather”.
Different plants attract different pests and diseases, so it is important that you know what you are up against. Catching them early will reduce the damage later on and allow them to recover for the summer.

Any Spring/Summer bulbs and seeds need to be planted.
Lilies, peonies, dahlias and begonias are just a few summer-flowering bulbs that should be planted in Spring, ready to reap the rewards in a few months’ time.

Remove weeds from lawn
Christian: “This can be done by spot weeding and treating the lawn to lawn feed and weed/moss killer. If using Lawn Feed make sure you read the dosage as too much could turn the lawn purple.”
Whether you choose to pull the weed out from the root or treat the lawn with chemical weed killer, now is the time to remove unsightly weeds from your garden, ready for summer barbecues and al fresco dining. For more information on removing weeds from your garden, click here.
Shape Shrubs
Christian: “Remove dead shrubs and shape for the summer. This should have been done in the winter tidy but for anything you missed, now is a good time to do.”
Prune, trim and shape shrubs to get rid of any winter detritus and get everything looking neat for summer!
Christian: “These are just a few tips to get you set for the beautiful garden you always wanted. It is just a little hard work away”.
